Other things I have made

Not everything I make fits in an envelope. Here are some of the shelves, mirrors, paintings, and portraits I have made along the way, and, at the end, painted stones you can order. Tap any picture to see it larger.

Painted furniture

A tall wall shelf painted slate blue with gold-striped edges and colored polka dots, holding mugs and paintbrushes — A wall shelf painted in stripes and polka dots, now full of brushes and mugs.

A low dark-blue bookshelf with coral, grey and black diamonds across the top and rainbow arcs painted on a shelf — A bookshelf with harlequin diamonds on top and rainbow arcs inside.

A two-drawer nightstand painted white and pale sea green with raised leaf ornaments around the drawer pulls — A nightstand repainted in white and sea green, with raised leaf details.

Candlesticks and mills

A pair of wooden salt and pepper mills painted red with purple bases, one with a turquoise top — Salt and pepper mills, painted red and purple.

Flowers in wood stain

Every flower here is made with wood stain alone, no paint. I was exploring how far wood stain could go.

A large pale flower made with wood stain on a square wooden panel, with the wood grain showing through the petals — A large flower, with the grain showing through the stain.

A tall wooden panel with a pale flower in wood stain over smoky blue and brown tones — A tall panel with a softer, smoky flower.

Three wooden panels of different sizes, each with a pale layered flower in wood stain — Three flower panels in three sizes.

A flower panel propped on a white dresser against a deep teal wall, beside small black boxes — One of the flower panels, at home on a dresser.

A busy work table covered in small flower panels, brushes, paint cans and tools — The work table in the middle of a batch of flower panels.

Watercolors

When the watercolor has other plans.

About a dozen watercolor pages spread on a round rug: flowers, leaves, a skyline, a sunset and color studies — A floor full of watercolor practice pages.

A watercolor of a city skyline of colorful buildings above rippling blue and yellow water — A city skyline reflected in the water.

A painting of a beach with a palm tree and deck chair seen through an open window, on a white shelf, with its reflection in the mirror beside it — A beach seen through a painted window, on the bathroom shelf.

Pet portraits

A drawing of two dogs lying down, a tan dog with white markings in front of a large black dog — A portrait of two good dogs, drawn from a photograph.

A detailed drawing of a black and white scruffy terrier looking up, beside the photograph it was drawn from — A scruffy terrier, next to the photograph I drew him from.

Backdrops

A painted backdrop of a red and orange sunset over layered blue mountains — A sunset over blue mountains, painted as a large backdrop.

A chestnut horse with a white blaze standing in front of the painted sunset backdrop — The same backdrop, with a horse posing in front of it.

Little stones to keep on a desk, a windowsill, or a bookshelf, or to tuck into someone’s hand. Choose a design and I will paint it for you. No two natural stones are the same, so yours will be a little different in size and shape from the one pictured.

Make it yours

For $5 more, I will paint a design of your choosing on the back of any one-sided stone.

About the stones

Most are between 2 and 3 inches across, and some are a little larger or smaller.
Painted by hand in acrylic paint on natural stones, then finished with layers of UV resistant clear coat for a glossy shine.
Not every stone is round, flat, or smooth. Because each one is painted by hand, there may be small imperfections, air bubbles, and bumps or divots in the paint.

Caring for your stone

They are happiest indoors. Sun and moisture can fade or crack the paint over time.
To clean, gently wipe with a damp cloth.
